John Freevert
 You may recognize John Freevert as one of our friendly Sunday morning greeters, but you may not know that John is also a great tennis player and came to Sarasota originally to play doubles with an old friend. Ten years have passed since then, but his love of tennis is still strong and now is love of God is even stronger.
John came to Sarasota from Northern Indiana, divorced and the father of two grown kids, Sean and Leana. On his way to work one day he was intrigued by the sign at GGC that said "Thanks Bob K." The coffee tables, messages in plain language and acceptance of people at Gulf Gate kept him coming. Now, as an active member of our morning crew, and as leader of the Tuesday evening Men's Life Group, he thrives in our GGC family.
Outside if GGC, John is an Area Manager and Sales Rep dealing with copiers printers and digital duplicators. He loves to spend time golfing, fishing, and biking, but looks most forward to his time at GGC.
John says, "The best part of my life is coming to GGC. I know that folks would be surprised that I would thank the hundreds of people who make my church day enjoyable... I love the Men's Group. It's an important step in making me a better man and a better person."
He had always considered himself "spiritual" but struggled with the concept of God's love and the reasons behind Jesus. It wasn't until reading Jesus' Sermon On The Mount that he could picture Jesus speaking directly to his heart and found himself one to be "poor in spirit, mourning, persecuted, suffering from hunger and thirst for righteousness and mercy." John realized it was not important to get his mind around God's love, but to get his heart right with Him instead. John claims his life has "only begun to change" and looks forward to living his new life in obedience in the footsteps of Jesus.
We at GGC look forward to supporting John in his walk. He's a great guy to get to know.
